Study Details & Requirements for Participation

Researchers at McGill’s iSMART Lab are currently recruiting participants for our study on Vital Monitoring. Participants receive $30 worth of either Tim Horton’s, McDonald’s, or Starbucks gift cards for participating in a two‑hour data recording session, where we’ll record videos of your face and monitor physiological signals as you complete a series of simple tasks while seated. The collected data will be used to develop and assess machine learning models for vital monitoring. Participants can take part in the study up to 5 times, receiving $30 worth of gift cards each visit. Registration for the second session can only be completed after the participant completed their first session.

The data recording session will take approximately 2 hours. During the session, we will record videos of your face and physiological signals. The first 45 minutes involve placing non‑invasive electrodes and sensors on your body. The remaining ~75 minutes (with breaks) will involve completing various tasks while data is recorded. All data is to remain anonymous; your name and personal information will not be associated with the recordings. Participation is voluntary — you may withdraw at any time, and we will delete your data upon request.

As the electrodes need to be placed on your torso and neck, you’ll be given privacy and can use nearby washrooms during installation. Assistants of all genders are available to help. The session will be run by two male researchers. We also request that you wear a short-sleeved shirt to the experiment

Requirements for participation

1. Be between the ages of 18 and 65
2. Low sensitivity to bright or continuous light exposure, such as that from photography panels
3. Understand French and/or English
4. Be able to sit unaided without an assistive or lower extremity prosthetic device
5. No history of hypersensitivity to medical equipment (e.g., Foley catheters, gloves) or nonmedical products (e.g., balloons, condoms, rubber gloves) containing natural rubber latex
